Day 272 -- Saint Jude's Bristol Lodge day

Today was the last Thursday of the month and (also the year) and it was St. Jude's turn to provide the meal. As luck would have it, my group had to cook meat loaf. We have to cook enough for 15 or so people, so that takes about 5 pounds of hamburg. Started around 11:00 and was all through mixing, etc by noon. It was a bit nostalgic for me as it was my last day to be "in charge." The new leader came here and went on the pickup route and then to the convent for the last stop where we suggested to some of the ladies to drop their cooking instead of as previously at Ruth's house. It all worked out well and Sandra will be great. Explained to the 2 men in charge there that we had a new leader as Ruth had passed away. They were both so sorry to hear this and welcomed Sandra aboard. We hung around a bit to show her the ropes and how some of our people stay and serve. She was happy to see how it all worked as she had always been on the pickup list, so it was all new to her. Ruth and I have been doing this together for 30 years, so it is a bit sad to close that chapter of my life. I will continue to cook each month, but not have to worry whether the other 25 remember to cook.
